The Town Tourism Development Committees (TTDCs) are seven-member teams, responsible, on behalf of each community, for tourism development and the day-to-day management of the community-based tourism enterprises. They are the representatives of all stakeholder groups in the community, and they include a representative of the Traditional Authority, a representative of the Unit Committee, a representative of the Youth Groups, and a representative of the Fishermen/Fish Processors’ Association.
TTDC members are typically selected by the community, and they tend to be individuals who are interested in the development of tourism and the community.
The proceeds of the community-based enterprises are divided into five parts: 10% goes to the Traditional Authority as royalty; and 20% is put into a Community Development Fund (CDF) which is meant to enhance the development of that community. This fund is managed by the community itself. Another 20% is for the administration and management of the community-based enterprises; yet another 20% is put into a tourism development project fund; and the final 30% goes to the tour guides. |
